Grant Thornton completes significant expansion in Japan

Grant Thornton Japan completed a significant expansion on 2 July 2018 when it welcomed the Yusei Audit Co. and Yamada & partners Certified Public Tax Accountants’ Co. to the network. The transaction adds 200 new audit staff and a 700 person tax company to the network, in addition to on-going discussions to agree a business alliance with one of Japan’s leading Consulting firms.

The audit company, Yusei Audit Co, formerly a member of Crowe Horwath International, has merged with Grant Thornton Japan. Yamada & Partners Certified Public Tax Accountants’ Co. a leading tax company with offices across Japan and overseas, has joined as a new member firm in Japan. This brings Grant Thornton’s total headcount in Japan to over 1,600 people and cements its position in the market, with combined revenues of over USD170 million. The tax service line is the third largest in our global network.

International reach

This expansion in Japan presents many opportunities for our global network. With Japan Desks in 16 countries acting as a gateway between inbound and outbound activities with Japan, the additional scale will further strengthen our ability to support businesses seeking Japan related opportunities for growth.

Business alliance

In November 2017, Grant Thornton Japan began discussions with Yamada Consulting Group, one of Japan’s leading consulting firms with over 800 staff at offices across Japan and globally. This business alliance will be based on cooperation in areas such as human resources and overseas expansion of Japanese clients via the Grant Thornton International Ltd network. The format of this alliance is still being discussed between the parties.

"This is a very exciting time for us in Japan with the current economic trends, Rugby World Cup and Olympic Games coming, our recent major expansion and our new offices. We are looking forward to continuing our strategic growth with our new colleagues from the Yamada Group." - Chairman, Mr Toru Kajikawa
